Continuously Wound Spiral Corrugated Form Finned Tubes

The flat fin is corrugated as it is wrapped onto the tube. The corrugation induces turbulence, which improves heat transfer in gases with poor thermal conductivity such as flue gas.

On our purpose-built machine for continuously wound spiral finned tube production, the flat fin fed onto the tube is corrugated and wrapped in a single operation.

By its nature this form induces turbulence. It is preferred where heat transfer must be improved in gases with poor thermal conductivity, such as flue gas. When carbon steel tube and carbon steel fin are selected, we recommend hot-dip galvanizing to our customers.

There are two main reasons for this: to protect the products against corrosion, and to perfect the heat transfer between the fin and the tube.

Advantages and Disadvantages

  • Lower cost than the L, LL and G forms.
  • Higher resistance to air flow.
  • Turbulence increases heat transfer.
  • Because it tends to trap dust and similar particles, regular cleaning or the use of a filter is required.
