Continuously Wound Spiral Laser Welded Form Finned Tubes

The fin profile is joined to the tube surface by high-precision laser welding, creating a metallurgical bond for maximum heat transfer.

In our laser welded finned tube production, the fin profile is joined to the tube surface continuously and homogeneously using high-precision laser welding technology. This method creates a metallurgical bond between the fin and the tube, achieving maximum heat transfer.

Because the laser welding process produces minimal heat input in the weld zone, it prevents distortion of the tube and fin geometry. This provides high dimensional accuracy, a smooth surface finish and a long service life.

Laser welded finned tubes are preferred particularly in applications involving high temperature, high pressure and demanding operating conditions. Production is possible with carbon steel, stainless steel and alloy steel tube and fin options. Surface coating and corrosion-protection treatments can also be applied on request.

Advantages and Disadvantages

  • Production cost is higher than the corrugated, L and KL form finned tubes; in return, the metallurgical bond achieved between fin and tube by laser welding gives very high heat transfer.
  • Thanks to the continuous and homogeneous weld structure, it offers a long service life in systems exposed to high temperature and continuous thermal cycling.
  • Because the fin-to-tube joint is welded rather than mechanical, resistance to tube vibration caused by high-velocity air flow is increased.
  • As there is no gap between fin and tube, contact resistance is minimal, which delivers high efficiency.
  • The smooth surface structure keeps turbulence low, so air-borne noise is very low.
  • It has a low tendency to trap dust, dirt and similar particles, which is an advantage for maintenance and cleaning.
  • Because of the welded structure, repair options are limited in the event of damage and part replacement is generally required.
